I am so disheartened. It seems I can't find a fantasy romance anymore that has a mature, sensible, relatable female lead in it that acts as you would expect a person to act in dire situations. Situations that one would think would be shocking enough that you would show some genuine distress and fear in. I have only gotten about 12% read at this point, but I had to put it down because Clarke (the female lead) is already on my nerves.For example, Clarke finds herself pretty quickly in a looming gang rape situation. She is saved (of course) by the H and taken to his home where he ties her to the bed. He looks just like her attackers (white hair, elf ears, wolf eyes etc), so you would think she would be leery and afraid of what his plans might be for her too, but instead of being cautious and being smart about it she starts making demands and asking weird flippant questions like 'did you build this house?' What in the world?! What woman that just went through what she went through and is now tied to a bed would seriously think to ask that question?Then when he brings her some food to eat, he has to spoon feed her because he refuses to untie her. You would think that being that close to your captor that you would not want to make the situation in any way sexual but apparently that doesn't cross her mind. When he starts feeding her she 'deeply moans' after every bite. How is that a rational or intelligent thing to do?! Seriously!I don't know, if you like heroines that are snarky and so full of sass and themselves that they just float through the story without any real emotion then maybe this is the book for you. I however, have read way too many of these and am now needing a more relatable and emotionally genuine female lead to read about.Also, the H was wearing a sweater. Nothing wrong with men wearing sweaters. Men wear sweaters all the time, like when they work in an office or go out for coffee. However, when I'm reading a fantasy romance set in a magical fuedal realm, dealing with elf/wolf shifter wariors it kinda throws me off when I read that the hero is wearing a sweater. Maybe that's just me, though. Rant done.
